Le joueur dispose de différents projectiles allant du traceur au missile qu'il faut acheter au fur et à mesure des parties. C'est un jeu vidéo d'artillerie en 3D se déroulant sur des îles paradisiaques, et l'objectif est d'envoyer un projectile explosif sur son adversaire.À partir de 2008, le jeu est rendu en OpenGL, et utilise des effets spéciaux pour simuler les vagues venant s'échouer sur les berges, ou le flou de l'horizon.

Oproti svému předchůdci je však zcela zdarma včetně zdrojových kódů, je multiplatformní (Microsoft Windows, Linuxu a Mac OS X, starší verze i FreeBSD a Solaris), značně se vylepšila grafika, která je nyní plně 3D a používá OpenGL. Hráč musí nastavit úhel, směr a sílu výstřelu, musí také brát do úvahy sílu větru. Scorched 3D je tahová počítačová hra s tanky (některé však vypadají jako ze South Parku, Bender z Futuramy nebo jako linuxový tučňák Tux) které jsou na začátku každé hry rozmístěny po vygenerované krajině a poté po sobě střílejí různými nekonvenčními zbraněmi.
